Denton Parking Guidelines

The City of Denton adopted parking regulations to improve the visibility and safety of commuters at potential conflict points like intersections and driveways. Being familiar with City regulations can improve safety and reduce citations.

Parking Restrictions

Parking restrictions can be identified with signs, pavement markings, and curb striping. However, not all parking restrictions are clearly marked so ensure you have an understanding of all city parking requirements.

Private Driveways

• Do not stop or park within 5 feet of a public or private driveway, or block any portion of a public or private driveway or access to such driveway.

Fire Hydrants

• Do not stop or park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

Crosswalks

• Do not stop or park within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, where crosswalk means either:

  • The portion of a roadway, including an intersection, designated as a pedestrian crossing by surface markings, including lines
  • The portion of a roadway at an intersection that is within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the roadway measured from the curbs or, in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway

Curbs & Edges

• Do not stop or park within 20 feet of the extension of the curbs or, in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable area of the adjacent cross-street.

Stop Signs & Signals

• Do not stop or park within 30 feet on the approach of a flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or traffic control signal located at the side of the roadway.

Narrow Streets

• On a narrow street, do not stop, stand, or park any vehicle in such a manner, or under such conditions, as to leave available less than 10 feet of the width of either lane of a roadway. Parking space widths require a minimum of 8 feet.
