Vehicle Safety

Follow the tips below to keep you and your vehicle safe.

  • Keep your keys with you at all times. Never leave your keys in your car, even just for a second.
  • When approaching your car, always have your keys in your hands ready to unlock it quickly.
  • When leaving your car, be sure all the windows are rolled up and all doors are locked.
  • Never leave valuable items in sight when leaving your car, especially at night. Consider hiding them under the seat, in the glove box, or simply take them with you. Burglars are more likely to break into your car if they seem something of value.
  • Do not pick up hitchhikers.
  • If you ever feel you are being followed, never drive home. Begin honking your horn to alert other drivers and drive toward a fire station or police station.
  • License plates can be stolen and placed on other vehicles that are used for crimes, so be sure to check your license plate often to ensure it is yours.
  • If you know you will be returning to your car after dark, be sure to park in a well lit area.
  • Always drive at least one cars length behind another vehicle, more if the roads are wet. If you do get into an accident, always call the police and stay in your car until they arrive.
  • Be sure to have your car routinely checked to ensure it is working properly. Re-fill your car with gas before it reaches ΒΌ of a tank.
